Schools and Training
Johnson Elementary School serves the kindergarten to grade seven students of Watson Lake. Of the 118 students enrolled at the school, most are members of the Liard First Nation.
The school’s vision is to have education foster the success of each student, as it is perceived by both cultures.
Watson Lake Secondary School, Grade 8 – 12, has a great facility with the capacity to support the development of students in academics, the arts, and applied skills. Currently in a student population of about 90 students, 75% are from the Liard First Nation.
Yukon College in Watson Lake is located in a separate wing of the secondary school, and provides the community with courses in academic upgrading, computer skills, and first aid. It is well equipped with a computer lab and high-speed Internet access.
The college is also a resource for information on student financial aid and other colleges and universities and provides job related training in the areas of entry-level trades, office administration, accounting, and Early Childhood Education.
Teleconferencing capabilities provide for a virtual meeting space for many groups and organizations.
The Watson Lake Library is located in the Town of Watson Lake Administration Building, 710 Adela Trail. Free public Internet and computer access is available in the library.
